I have been using wood. I would like to keep the fire in all night but if I turn the flue down it goes out if I leave it up it burns out. Would coal be better?

5 We have a Jotul F3 and have no problem keeping things going until the morning. The deal is that before you pack it in for the evening, you need to have about 2 inches of hot embers at the bottom - rake out the ashes (and empty the pan) and put a few logs on. You always want to burn rather hot or you make too much chimney smoke. We can go to bed at 11:30 and, at 9AM, can still restart with no kindling. This stove is great! We've been running it 24x7.
