buttonhole making - the buttonhole lever IS in the...

buttonhole making - the buttonhole lever IS in the correct place but the machine will not sew a button hole - error message bl. I've been online but cannot work out what I am doing wrong. it sews a bartack then gives the error message. I have inserted a button in the back of foot R.
