5 Based on what your statement is. I would look at two possible problems here. The capacitor which in a nut shell is like a booster to get the compressor running. If the capacitor has failed the compressor will NOT turn on. Some of the capacitors are dual run capacitors. Meaning that one part of the capacitor is used for the compressor while the other part is used for just the fan. Generally speaking when they fail this is classic sign of failed capacitor. If the fan motor is hot, then that also a good indiication. Reason it hot (it would be above luke warm) is that it cant get enough power from the capacitor and it drawing more amps than need to try and keep running. The other area I would check is there are 3 wire that go into the actual compressor. You would need to check the terminal connections (spades) and see if a wire had burnt off and or a wire simply poped off. Id say its a simple capacitor that has failed. You will need to locate the capacitor (it inside the unit) its either round or oval and will be silver. Make note of all the voltages listed on the side of the capacitor. Go to your online HVAC website an order on. It does not have to be by LG as they dont make the capacitor. So any cap that meet the guidelines will work. Lastly, IF***** If you decided to tackle this yourself (its not hard) shut the power off at the disconnect 1st. Make NOTE of WHAT COLOR wire is going to what terminal. They will be marked C (thats common) Herm (thats the compressor) Fan (is fan). The new one will be marked as well. So it reads C, Herm, Fan Just note do not touch the terminal connections with you fingures as the old capacitor even thought the power is off, the part itself has stored electricity. Once removed to discharge it, take an insulated tool, and touch it across the terminal spades. This will discharge the cap. The new one has no stored juice in it. So you can touch it. After everything is buttoned up and all connections are tight (make sure the spades are tight on the terminal). Turn the disconnect back and you should be good to go. Lastly if this is not your cup of tea, you unit "maybe" under a factory PARTS ONLY warranty. Meaning the part itself is free, how ever the labor is not. It takes less than 20 mins to swap one of these out. But the bill for 1 hour so Id day with tax and all probably around 125. If the part is NOT under warranty (your hvac contractor can tell you this) figure Around 175-200.
