Question About Heath Zenith Door SL-6166

Turning the volume control has no effect on the volume. Is there an internal adjustment that can be made to lower the volume. It is quite anoying as it is. Also, having to register just to receive information about a product already purchased is totally rediculous. It is just a marketing ploy and I despise being marketed to like this.
