5 On the outside of the alarm in a groove there is a small plastic slider. Use a torch/flashlight to read the instruction on the slider: it has an arrow and 'slide to open' written on it. Trick is that it doesn't actually slide. Push it to the left (the direction indicated by the arrow) and pull gently downwards at the same time - the whole alarm will hinge downwards from the far side. Once it is open you can see the battery and it is straightforward. Make sure that + on the battery goes to + on the alarm. The unit will not close without a battery in it. Push the unit closed again. A green light should be on.
