My husband blew a fuse in the house by plugging in...

My husband blew a fuse in the house by plugging in a heater. We reset the circuit breaker and evreything (so we thought) came back on. We did not know it knocked out the water heater until the next morning when he went to take a shower. Can this be reset somehow or will I have to buy a new one. It was installed on 9/4/04?
