How does one know what the numerical window value ...

How does one know what the numerical window value is indicating. If I set 60 the indicated value shortly thereafter changes value. Is the displayed the set point or is it the area humidity value? Will the unit shut off when the set point is reached? Is the set point only displayed briefly?
