4 Hi danjon – Typically it is base on the outside temperature and in reality there isn’t a certain of amount of time that a unit can run. If the unit is set to cool a room continuously and the outside temperature is extremely high, it could cause the unit to freeze up because it is not operating currently. The compressor is design to turn on and off; however the fan will continue to run. I recommend turning on any ceiling fans that you have in your home to help maintain a constant temperature in the home.
