I came home from work today to hear my unit beepin...

I came home from work today to hear my unit beeping. the remote will change the display temporarly then it goes back to #16 is this some sort of code or can you tell me if i can do something to fix it. I put new batteries in the remote and cleaned the filter. it just keeps beeping.
