Question About First Alert Smoke Alarm Model SC9120B

Alarm chirped once every 30 seconds or every minute or so. It did this about 4 times, then stopped. This was about 5 hours ago in the middle of the night. Why did it stop? Also, when changing batteries, it's so hard to get the battery in and get the door closed. Frustrating! Any helpful hints?
