5 Thanks Onewind...the only way I got the battery out was to use a fork and lifted the back of the battery. Boy why did they design this to be soooo difficult.

5 just tried to change battery. So poorly designed that it took me 10min to open compartment, needed knife to extract battery, 20min to reinsert drawer misaligning contacts to the point detector unserviceable. So if you want a detector for one battery cycle this piece of **** is for you -never again customer of First Alert

5 The SA710, is less than user friendly. Very poor design of the battery changing compartment. Stay clear of this model.

3 Just pull out the drawer, remove old, put in new. My only problem is now that I've don't that, my detector doesn't work.. any idea why? I've tried 2 brand new batteries in it and I put them in correctly to no avail..

0 Open the battery drawer all the way. The bottom of the tray is a flexible panel sitting right under the battery. The purpose of this panel is to eject the battery. Push UP on this panel and the battery will pop up out of the drawer.

0 I had a lot of trouble replacing battery, used a screwdriver, pliers and a hook on the end of a meat skewer and then push from underneath battery compartment to get out eventually.
