5 Hey there, No, this is not right. When the smoke detector is functioning properly, pressing the test button should produce a long and loud beep. This particular detector has AC connectivity with a 9V battery back up. The device will not work properly without the battery back up, so make sure you have a new 9V battery properly fastened in the fire alarm. To verify this, remove the battery cover from the underside of the detector, and press the battery in all the way to ensure it is seated properly. Replace the battery cover tightly. The manufacturer recommends only certain types of battery, which I believe is Duracell and Rayovac-If you read the underside of the detector, it states so on there. Now, be sure the AC connector is securely seated in the underside of the fire detector. Personally, mine is a little loose, so I have to arrange it just so that the electrical connection remains constant. If the connection is loose, this can cause the detector to work improperly. Now, test the detector to make sure you recieve the test beep. If you do not, you may have a problem with the AC connection. It's also possible that the detector is faulty, or just old. Manufacturers recommend that you replace your fire detectors every 10 years. Check out the back of the detector-the manufacturer date should be stamped somewhere on the back. I have the same model fire detector, so they can be slightly finicky. If you have the detector plugged in correctly, the green light should remain constantly on, and the red light will blink once every 30 or 60 seconds or so. that means its good to go! Hope I have been of help! There is no direct manual for this model, but I have found that this manual is as close as you're gonna get: http://www.firexsafety.com/NR/rdonlyres/B34188D0-084D-48D9-AAD7-1104760063E3/0/110762FEnglish4518.pdf
