I have a FireX Smoke Alarm--photoelectric item 4580 that I purchased in 2006 but never used. I must have purchased an extra one. It is Model FPAD. It has never had a battery inserted in it. Is there any reason not to keep it as a spare in case one of my installed alarms fails. Does anything in it wear out just sitting on a shelf?
