0 i think you cannot change the battery on gc240. you need to replace unit. i have the same problem. it is over 10 year now. looking for similar product which no need to change wireing. some one told me that firex 4881 is same kind of gc240. you can chek that out. let me know if it is worked. i am stucked too.
