I hate my fire alarms. They randomly go off for no apparent reason. It happened again at 4:30 this morning and our son couldn't fall back to sleep. They are going off again rirght now!!!!!!!!!!!!! What is the problem with these sensitive alarms? Are they faulty? Are other customers having the same problem?

3 We've had these alarms in our house since it was built 9 years ago. I've replaced 5 of them in that time (some more than once included in there) that I am sure of - perhaps more. There are 8 total in the house. Not a good deal in my opinion. I'm now looking to replace all of them with another brand/make as I'm fed up with these. So I'm researching what might work. Expensive replacement as we just added to the house and have 12 total now - but if it stops the midnight wakeups that disturb the kids it will be worth it...

0 The same thing happens to me. I purchased the house 3 months ago and we've already replace one "faulty" detector. The fire department came to my house a month ago and had to enter the home to deactivate the alarm. That week, the same alarm activated the whole system 4 times. Yesterday we had one go off during the day but eventually stopped (about 2 minutes into it and before I could figure out which one activated the system). Last night at 11pm one activated the alarm and woke up our 8wk old puppy (it took about 45 minutes to get her back to sleep). I took the detector off the ceiling and looked at it and it seems slightly dusty. The owner's manual says to clean each detector once a month... and I haven't done it in 3 months and I doubt the previously owners did it at all. I am hoping that the detectors just need to be cleaned otherwise this might be a more costly repair (replacement) than I would like. If you figure out a solution please respond. I'll tell you how the cleaning goes. -Josh
