Smoking logs too sooty...

I had somebody clen it up before the heating season. It lasted two days before getting too sooty to function. I then cleaned it again. I found lots of clumps of soot. I cleaned that up and then got ready for visitors. It got all sooty again after only two hours. What is gong on??
