How do I turn off the timer?...I've hit the timer...

How do I turn off the timer?...I've hit the timer button twice (air conditioner is on) but it doesn't work...Fedders Unit is 5 or 6 years old, through the wall, with timer...Model number unknown....Thank you, Al Golden
