how to turn off empty indicator? My friend gave me...

how to turn off empty indicator? My friend gave me this and could not find the manual - It is full of water - but says empty - I opened the top and I see the floation device, but unsure how the rod fits into the "empty" trigger switch to turn it off, - don't know if missing a part, or I am not grasping this - thank you.
