4 The outdoor unit can frost up under normal operating conditions. the defrost control should take care of this every 30, 60, or 90 minutes. If it ices up then the defrost control would be suspect. In heating mode is the larger of the two lineset pipes hot? measure the temperature across the indoor coil it should be 25-30 degrees temp change with no electric heat. Go to Sporlan expansion valve website for txv diagnostics and reversing valves.

3 the frosting occurs when refrigerant is flashing, or going from liquid to vapor. It could indicate a restriction, the expansion valve may not be feeding correctly, or low refrigerant charge. Where is the frosting occuring?

0 charged system in cooling mode , prior to the condenser frosting up in heating mode . is there any way to find out wether there is a problem with the expansion valve in the condensing unit or possibly the reversing valve isn;t opening all the way ?
