Question About Dimplex Indoor Fireplace Optiflame Electric Fireplace

I don't know if my fireplace is supposed to put off heat? It is an optiflame, there are not indicator lights by manual switches, but there is a wall mounted dial with degrees listed almost like an AC unit knob, but it says Dimplex. How do I get it to put off heat?
