My 1/2 hp openers manual calls for 24 volts, which...

My 1/2 hp openers manual calls for 24 volts, which is what the receptacle on the ceiling is. However, on the BODY of the opener, it says 120 volt. This thing will not work on the 24 volt receptacle. Any ideas? I'm having to run a drop cord.
