I cannot program my garage door opener for travel ...

I cannot program my garage door opener for travel limits.I did everything it says in the book 5 times and it only travels 12 inches at a time in either direction when I push the black and purple but tons.safety sensor buttons are working properly.I tried adjusting the force but it only travels same distance before stopping.

5 Your operator is not plugged in or there is not enough power to that outlet.Make sure your garage door motor is plugged into a working outlet.Or either your photo eyes connection is being disrupted.Most garage door openers are equipped with photo eyes which detect if a person or "object" is in the way of the door as it is closing or opening.Check to make sure there is nothing in the way of the photo eyes.Or your torsion spring could just be broke?This is the most common problems with garage doors.When the Spring snaps the motor can no longer lift the door on its on.
