My 1/2 HP craftsman garage door opener is doing crazy things. Basically, when I push the door button or remote button, the closed garage door tries to CLOSE more and causes the track bar to bend upwards. For some reason it seems like the opener thinks the door is open and it is closing it more, which causes the bar to almost snap. I was told it was a bad sensor since the lights were off initally, i got new sensors, lights are back on, yet it will not open still, just attempt to close an already closed door. I lightened the force settings to 1, no change. Any ideas? Thanks.

0 I had a similar problem where it was closing and that was it . I had changed the sprocket out and while it was spining I didn't realize that the gear from the limit sensor wasn't engageing as I was standing by the door where the opener was. I was making the assumption that my sensors weren't working properly because the trolly was moving and forcing the door shut... Make sure that the sensor wires are white to 2 and the black/white are hooked to 3 . Poor lighting caused me to think ..one set was white but they are both black/white and white. Easy to think you have the correct hookup but well worth checking in case that is the problem with the sensors. I made sure that the gears where meshed by pulling the lower gear off and pushing the limit gear into proper position, then with the chain off run the opener to the bottom position which for me was the left side as you are looking from the limit side ( the two white screws). They are talking about the two components on the bottom of the limit sensor that you adjust with the white screws... With the door in the closed position to match the limit setting put the chain back on . Your lights will be on in your sensors if you have the hookup correct . decrease your force the blue screws on the other side down to 1. Make sure your lock button isn't on and push the button . It should open if all went well. If it does then you will start to adjust your limits the white screws untill you are opening alll the way and most importantly not closing to hard. Once you open the door adjust the bottom by turning the screw back towards the thin piece of metal to keep the door from closing to hard. Hope I didn't over state the obvious but I know what it is like to go to the manual and be clear as mud after you read the information on a given page. If this doesn' t work you will be in a position where digging through the manual , frustrating , will pay off in the end even though it seems like you will be doing it for a while... Good Luck and never give up.
