is it possible to by-pass the detector?

0 It is possible but not recommended for operation. Only bypass the CO alarm to determine if your having a problem elsewhere in the system. Remove the paddle-type termination plugs from the brass fitting. Remove the small line going into the fitting. Now remove the fitting and screw the small line in it's place. When I did this, as an extra safety precaution, I installed a stand-alone alarm next to the appliance until I was able to get the in-line alarm repaired / replaced.
