5 There are a wide variety of high limit switches depending on the use and age of the unit. Older furnaces used 110 volts to operate and 14 - 12 gauge wiring. Some newer units use a different type of switch that is usually a thinner stranded wire and use 24 V. You could always take a sample of the old wire with you to the store where they will likely sell you a small amount for very cheap. If it's the older style switch using 110 voltage, I recommend a 12/3 wire.
