We have a relatively new heatpump and furnace, both are Bryant and installed at the same time. The furnace is a Bryant 80 percent #310 aav042090. The Bryant heatpump is a 13 Seer model 650anx030000. We are heating a 1600 sq ft home.Which is 13 yrs and has 6in walls double glazed windows. Our concern is that the that the heatpump will not maintain a constant temp. When the temp drops more than 2 degrees it shuts off and demands help from the furnace. These are even ambient temps of 8 or 9 degrees c. Any sugggetions would be greatly appreciated. Thank you Alan McDonald Penticton BC Can.

0 I've found that setting the thermostate at 71 will give optimal function w/heat pump, but the HP will only operate down to appx. 28 degrees, then it will call for back-up by the main furnace, this is normal. The HP is a great $$ saver in OK,but not many people are aware.

0 Typically a 2 stage thermostat is used to bring in elect strip heat in the event the heat pump can't keep up. ( heat strip is down stream of the HP coil ) the strip heat is expensive and is usually locked out by a ambient thermostat until it is really needed ,preventing the home owner from turning it on accidentally by turning the stat up more than 2 degrees. For this reason you should never install a night setback stat on a heat pump. When a HP coil is installed on a gas furnace it is usually on top of the furnace or Down stream of the furnace. So if it were to run at the same time as the HP the entering air temperature would be so high that the heat pump would not be able to reject it's heat, and trip its safeties or worse breakdown. So it must be shut off ( when your HP can't keep up and falls 2 Degrees behind) OR WHEN YOU TURN THE T-STAT UP MORE THAN 2 DEGREES, OR USE A NIGHT SETBACK STAT. Your system is either tripping safeties or your dealer has installed controls that lock out your HP when your room temp is more than 2 deg below set point. Have your dealer install a balance point thermostat to lock out your gas heat until you really need it and stop playing with your t'stat,
