why does the thread keep breaking? when I start to sew the thread snaps,how do I fix this?

0 Could be a number of things. The top tension might be to tight. The thread could be threaded wrong. Or the needle could be in wrong. EX some thread from side to side some front to back. Even the bobbin could be clogged up and causing this. Also it could be old thread. Cotton thread is terrible and I have found that most threads are not as strong as they were in the 70 80.s so on . I also found that there are different weights of thread and not all threads are created equal. Mine did the same and I finally adjusted the tension by taking off the outside nob on the tension wheel and adjusted it from there and got it to sew great. I had tried and tried before and just set it aside as it was a spare that was given to me. It sat for 5 yrs and was going to give to Daughter and I fixed it so I could do so . Hope you can fix this for yourself.
