I have several BRK AC-I Smoke Alarms, installed in 1982, Hot wired, tests ok.. but how long do this units last, should they be replace

5 Smoke detectors are rated for certain time periods. In my opinion I would change my detectors whenever they begin to show aging. Some aging signs to look for are yellowing of the plastic, cracking of the plastic, corrosion on the battery terminals and if the detector has led lights they may be burnt out. Also if the detectors have been painted over I would definitely replace them. Hope this helps out.
