...hit the red reset button every other day. Started doing this about two weeks ago. Unit is 5 years old

5 I had this same problem. The red reset button is pushed when the tank water temperature is higher then the 120 degree safety setting to prevent scalding. Try turning your thermostats down, both upper and lower (counter clockwise).

5 i ended up replacing the lower Tstat and that solved my problem.
