i got this unit as a trade through kijiji and wasn...

i got this unit as a trade through kijiji and wasn't expecting this humidifier to be hard to operate. i plugged it and pressed the power button but nothing happened. should there have been a noise at least? all i can see is the digital screen light up and thats it.
