GCV 40 200 leaking at water inlet pipe. Can this be screwed out and install a new one? Date of manufacture 02/11/2011

0 I've replaced the connecting pipe 3 times using pipe dope, teflon tape twice. Leak remains the same. Has to be leaking from the inlet on the tank. Only 1" of nipple sticking out so I will have to damage threads to remove it. Once I start there is no going back. Want to be sure that the nipple can be unscrewed from the tank. I know it will be really tight. Afraid I run a risk of crushing the nipple before it comes out. Then I have to buy a whole new heater.
