American Standard Freedom 80 installed 2002. Diagn...

American Standard Freedom 80 installed 2002. Diagnostic light flashes continuosly, about 1 time per second. Tstat set to 80 degrees, temp in house 65. Looks like no call for heating. Tried A/C, set at 50, this did not work either. Thinking batteries in tstat, any other thoughts?
