Step 1: Identify your heating/cooling system
IMPORTANT: Thermostats are designed to work with specific
heating/cooling systems, so it’s essential that you know your system
type to avoid purchasing the wrong style.
Central Heat or Central Heat & Air — The most common
system. Can be 24V gas or oil, hot water or electric.
Heat Pump — Heating and air conditioning combined into
one unit. Can be single- or multi-stage.
Fireplace/Floor/Wall Furnace — Millivolt or 24V
heating systems.
Electric Baseboard — Convectors, fan-forced heaters,
electric baseboards and radiant ceilings.
Step 2: Choose your thermostat type
Programmable — Makes the most efficient use of your system by
automatically adjusting the set temperature throughout the day. You
let the thermostat know your preferred temperature
at different times of the day and night, then forget about it —
the thermostat does the work. Best for people on the go or
those seeking the most efficient energy savings.
See Step 3 for different programmable thermostat options.
Digital Non-Programmable — Non-programmable thermostat with a
digital readout. Best for people who prefer manually
controlled settings with the convenience of an easy-to-read
LCD display.
Mechanical/Manual — Control the temperature setting manually. Best
for people who are home often and prefer a fixed temperature.
Step 3
For programmable thermostats, select the
options that best fit your lifestyle
7-Day — Ultimate flexibility. Set up to four program periods per day, every
day. Great for people with busy schedules.
5-1-1-Day — One program for the weekdays; a separate program for
Saturday and Sunday. Up to four program periods per day.
5-2-Day — Allows up to four programs per day, with separate
programming for weekdays and weekends.
1 Week — One program for the entire week with 4 program periods.

What To Look For
All thermostats share one common feature — a way to set the temperature. After that, every
thermostat is different in terms of accuracy, reliability, number of features, display size and
more. Here are a few features you should consider when choosing your thermostat.
Menu-Driven Programming. Some
programmable thermostats can be
difficult to program, but menu-driven
programming guides you through the
process much like using an ATM.
Smart Response
®
Technology. Knowing exactly how to plan your programming
to make sure your home is heated or cooled at the right time can be hit or miss.
Honeywell thermostats with Smart Response Technology take the guesswork out
of programming to maximize comfort and energy savings.
Filter Change Reminder. Keep
your system operating at peak
performance.
4 Programmable Periods Per Day.
Honeywell programmable thermo-
stats allow settings for wake, leave,
return and sleep to provide you
with a full day of energy savings.
Easy-To-Read Displays.
An easy-to-view dial or a backlit
screen makes using the thermostat
a pleasure. Many Honeywell
models show both the set and
current temperature, and some
models also display the current time.
