Supporting the exhaust vent system and the use
of an external condensate trap
External condensate traps
B A condensate trap must be used in any sidewall
exhaust vent installations when the total vent length
is 5 ft (1.5 m) OR the vent pipe passes through an
unheated space (below 60F). See diagram below for
connecting a condensate tube.
B A condensate trap must be used for any vertical
exhaust installations. See diagram below for
connecting a condensate tube.
B When installing the condensate tubing at the exhaust
collar (see diagram below), be sure to form a trap by
means of a 3" (76.2 mm) loop filled with water. This
tube must be 3/8" ID high temperature silicone
for at least the first 6 inches (152 mm) and attached
with a gear clamp or hose clamp. The condensate
must be disposed of according to local regulations.

If the total horizontal exhaust vent length in a side wall
installation is greater than or equal to 5 feet (1.5m), a
condensate drain tube must be attached to the exhaust
collar.
