Changing battery

Having trouble opening battery compartment.

Changing Batteries on this model

Just pull out the drawer, remove old, put in new. My only problem is now that I've don't that, my detector doesn't work.. any idea why? I've tried 2 brand new batteries in it and I put them in correctly to no avail..
