Sears/Craftsman Garage Door Opener 139.53648SRT1

Garage door opener lift problem

My Sears Craftsman 1/2 HP chain drive garage door opener will only lift, (as of yesterday), 1 foot off of floor and no further. I can manually lift the door with ease so it is not the springs. Detached from door opener works fully. We just purchased home in July and owner suppplied no manual for door opener. Can this problem be resolved? Thanks, Michael Abel
