Sears Garage Door Opener 139.5397SRT

not always responding to remote

I have 2 door openers with 2 remotes. Each remote opens both doors (different buttons). One opener is working fine. The other, using either/both remotes, only works when you are very close or sometimes from strange angles/distances. I tried batteries and to reset the remotes. No improvement. Any hints? The model is 139.53970SRT
