  • Replacing Battery for FX1218 alarm

I found the following site helpful. Turned off power, removed alarm cover by twisting to left, and pulled out the power plug, which is a small little plug connecting wires to battery. There are some models that have a slide function, but this one just pulls right out after the immediate 'snugness' is loosened.

  • Replacing Battery for FX1218 alarm

The process of replacing the battery was initially quite frustrating, but ultimately quite straightforward. The sides of the plastic housing where the AC wires go into the unit are barbed plastic arms that hold the batterly cover in place. Simply pinch the arms to release the barbs and remove the unit from the cover, which will remain attached to the AC wiring. I didn't find this process the least bit intuitive, and the product manual linked in another comment was useless, as the diagram didn't exactly match my 1218 model. I was seconds away from snapping off part of the battery cover with a screwdriver before I noticed that I had managed to force out one of the barbs. Only then could I see how the unit was set up and how easy this process should have been from the beginning.
