new machine with big problem

i just got my sewing machine for christmas and started using it in april and it was working well but my fabrics started to be chewed under the metal feed dogs and now the needle wont pick up the bobbin thread. ive made sure that i was using the correct needle and the tension worked well when i started sewing the same material in april. my bobbin was also correctly threaded as was the machine. what can i do?
