poor venting, smoke filling room

smoke now fills room when starting. After 30 minutes, it is fine. I still can't find an owners manual. Am I supposed to clean the top shelf or something on this thing?

Poor venting

When I first got my stove I had smoke issues. I added more chimney pipe and the extra draft eliminated the problem.
