problems after repair

garage door opener. I just replaced the drive gear and did not set the chain in the down position once I ran the motor through 1 revolution. now I can not get the door to open. it seem that every time I try to operate the opener the travel of the door is only about a foot in either direction. do I have to take it apart again ans start over.
