• Defective lower element
  
  
  My daughter has the same problem and just told me about it this morning. I am quite knowledgable on these types of things. Although I have not gone over to her home yet, I would bet 99% that it's the lower heating element that needs to be replaced. They have hot water, but not the volume they had previous to a couple weeks ago she said. Hot water rises and the top element has to work less to keep hot water hot. The lower element has to heat 55 degree gound water up to 130 degrees and usually burns out long before the upper element.
  
  The elements are usually not very expensive and tomorrow I'll be looking for one to bring over to her home and replace it.....I'm sure enough to buy the part first and fix it in one trip.
