Can You Help With These Problems?

  Reverses when closing
  When closing, without anything under the door, the door only moves a few inches then reverses to open. The only way to close the door is to hold a wired switch down until the door bottoms out. How is this fixed?

  remote control
  I just moved in to a house that has this brand of garage door opener. The remote controls battery was dead. I went to sears and purchased another battery, changed and it still is not working. Do I need to reprogram the control to the unit. If so how can I accomplish this?. Thanks
